Deleg8

Getting started

Deleg8 is boards of tickets that your team works, with a portal where your clients send requests and read the updates you publish. It runs on its own: its own accounts, its own database, on your own server or Cloudflare. Nothing else is needed.

1. Make an account

Open the app and choose Create an account: your name, your email and a password. Confirm your email with the link Deleg8 sends (on a server with no mail set up, the link is written to the server’s log). The team’s owner is the address the server names as its owner (DELEG8_OWNER_EMAILS); only that address, or one with a waiting team invite, can make an account. With none named, a server on localhost that listens only on that computer (for trying it out) makes the first account the owner, and a public one makes nobody owner and says so in its log. You start with an Inbox.

2. Write tickets

A ticket has a title and, if you like, details, done when (what finished looks like), a priority (1 urgent to 4 someday), labels, your own fields, photos and files, and who it is for (anyone on the board, or a person). To add several at once, paste one per line; !1 sets the priority and #label adds a label.

Add rate limits to /upload !1 #api
Paginate /files #api

Break a big ticket into sub-tickets, and link tickets that belong together as related.

3. Bring in your team

Invite people by email as an admin or a member, and share a board as Manager, Can work or Can view. Everyone sees the same board, live. A script or another computer can take tickets with a work token or an API key.

4. Add your clients

Make a Client for each company you work for, put its boards under it and invite its users. They sign in to a clean portal (on its own address if you give it one), send requests with photos, and read only the updates you publish.

5. Watch it get done

Each ticket keeps a timeline: who took it, notes along the way, and what it was closed with. Not right? Reopen it with the reason, and it goes back on the list.
